Residential Scholarship
The Shalom Gamarada Scholarship Program was set up in 2005 to support the enrolment and retention of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander medical students studying at the University of New South Wales. It runs in partnership with UNSW’s Shalom College and the university’s Muru Marri Indigenous Health Unit.
The program provides residential scholarships to students and covers full board and lodging at the College on the University’s Kensington campus allowing students to concentrate on their studies for the duration of their degrees. The first Shalom Gamarada graduate is now working as a doctor after graduating in December 2009. Fifteen of UNSW’s current 27 Indigenous medical students reside at Shalom College and the aim of the program is to increase the number of Aboriginal medical students and doctors.
Medicines Australia supports two medical students through the scholarship.
