Immunisation

Immunisation in Australia

The National Immunisation Program (NIP) is a Federal Government initiative which aims to increase national immunisation rates by funding free vaccination programs, administering the Australian Childhood Immunisation Register (ACIR) and communicating information about immunisation to the general public and health professionals.

Medicines Australia member companies manufacture and supply all of the vaccines to the NIP and, as a result play a central role in ensuring the objectives of the Program can be met.

The current NIP Schedule outlines the Government’s recommended and fully funded vaccine plan by age group. The Schedule can be accessed here

The Australian Immunisation Handbook provides clinical guidelines for health professionals and the public on the safest and most effective use of vaccines. This Handbook can be accessed here

Additionally, the Australian vaccines industry is continually engaged in partnerships with the government and other key stakeholders such as the Public Health Association of Australia (PHAA) and the National Centre for Immunisation and Research (NCIRS) in the financing and implementation of programs that seek to communicate the value of vaccines to the public.
