This summary sets out the key points about how Medicines Australia handles personal information.
We only collect, hold use and disclose personal information to carry out our mission to drive the creation and development of a predictable environment for an innovative prescription medicines industry so Australians continue to lead longer and healthier lives.
Personal information collected
We collect personal information from member representatives to enable us to provide member services such as news and briefings on areas of interest that member representatives have chosen to hear about and to check entitlement to access our member website.
We collect personal information directly and indirectly (for example, publicly available sources) about non-members and other stakeholders to develop a relationship with them, their company or their organisation for the purpose of furthering our mission.
We collect information about people who attend continuing education programs including their results to enable us to administer the program including by providing those people with an official record of their results if needed.
We also collect personal information through our websites and analyse it using an internally controlled application called PIWIK. We use this information only for website and system administration, customising to users’ needs and improving our website.
Uses and sharing
We sometimes disclose information about members to other members or to third parties but only where the member agrees to it, or would reasonably expect it – for example to facilitate discussion between members or a task force on a key industry or Medicines Australia board issue, or to a provider assisting us with a conference.
We only disclose continuing education results to a third party (for example a current or potential employer) with consent.
We publish the names of award winners and board and committee members in our annual report and/or website.
Although we require a Code of Conduct non-member complainant to give us their name, as a matter of policy we do not reveal that name to the company complained about.
Your rights and choices
You have the right to ask for access to the personal information that we hold about you, and we will take reasonable steps to correct the information if we consider it is incorrect.
